What is a Christian
The personal relationship with an eternal savior
Who is Jesus?
Jesus Christ is a real person who is both fully human and fully God. He was born of a virgin, lived a life completely free of sin, performed many miracles, was brutally hanged on a cross, died and three days later rose again. He went up to heaven and will one day return. He did all of this as a sacrifice for all mankind to pay the debt for our sins because there is no way we could on our own.
God is perfect and apart from sin. In order to enter into His presence, one must be without sin as well. This is impossible for man. However, through the grace of God, the Holy Spirit enables us to accept Jesus' gift of sacrifice, be cleansed and have a real, personal relationship with God in life and live with Him in Heaven for eternity.
Being a Christian is about responding to this Gospel. Admit that you are a sinner, accept that Christ paid the price for you on the cross, repent from your sin and submit to the Lordship of Christ. Accept the work of Christ through faith and have the assurance of salvation that cannot be lost.
Romans lays it out clearly:
Romans 3:23 - For ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9 - That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe with your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
